Telling Stories

Recently the Women’s Speakers Association presented a webinar taught by speaking coach, Felicia Slattery.  Although I learned a great deal on this webinar,  one thing in particular really struck a chord with me.  STORY TELLING!   The concept of story telling is not new, it’s been around forever!  Jesus tells stories, referred to as parables,, throughout the Bible to teach lessons and emphasize important aspects of living this remarkable thing called life.  We can do the same with our stories.  We all have stories from our extraordinary, ordinary lives.  As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that you could sit down right now and list a dozen stories from your life that taught you a lesson!  So go ahead!  Make that list!

I’ve begun my list and starting on August 1st, I will begin my 30 days of stories challenge!  I will be posting a new video story every day to share a story of encouragement, inspiration and motivation with you!  I promise you these stories will be true events from my life!  Some will make you laugh out loud!  I invite you to join me on this journey!  I’d love for you to share the videos with your friends and invite others to tune in!  Maybe you’d consider a story challenge of your own?  Please let me know if you do so I can participate with you!  I’d love to hear stories of how God has moved in your life!  I’d love to know what events have motivated you to keep going or go a different direction!  Stories of triumph and failure and what you’ve learned about yourself through it all or perhaps, what you would tell someone else who might be in that same place!

As a matter of fact, I will put the challenge out there to a few of my fellow speaker buddies!  Sherrie Dunlevy, Anthony Mougianis, Rob Oliver and Donna Cutting – consider this a challenge to you!  I’d love for you join me in sharing 30 days of stories to inspire, encourage and motivate others!  Use your expertise!  Share your passions!  Share your unique stories about how you have become successful in your businesses and personal lives!  I know you all have incredible stories to tell!  I’m sure we are going to learn from one another!  Please let me know if you accept and please feel free to challenge others!  If we all share each other’s videos, imagine the wave of inspiration we will be creating!  Post your videos to your own social media sites and please use the hashtag #30daystorychallenge!  This will be great fun!

If you enjoy telling stories, feel free to join us!  It’s easy to do!  Simply set up your phone or webcam and press record!  Tell a story from your life!  Keep it short and sweet and CLEAN!  Then post to your social media.  (You can also use the “go live” feature on Facebook to record your videos!” Be sure and use the hashtag #30daystorychallenge.  We will be selecting stories to re-post on our pages and blog!  If we choose one of your videos, your story will be seen on multiple social media channels!

One hint:  Make your list first!  List 30 story ideas from your life and then get started!  You can pre-record your videos and schedule them to post every day or simply go “live” on Facebook or YouTube and tell your story!  However you decide to do it, don’t forget to use the hashtag #30daystorychallenge so we can track the stories!

So, the challenge begins August 1st but you can jump in any time!!  These story videos will be short, no longer than 3 minutes!  Post to all social media!  Share each other’s posts and let’s see what kind of momentum we can achieve!  READY, SET . . . . . . GO!!!!!
